Violist

I'm a professional violist, with a background on classical music. I focus on chamber music and contemporary music, and I also have experience with improvisation, and electronic music.

Biography

Originally from Spain, I spent the past ten years living in Norway, where i studied the bachelor’s degree in viola and practical pedagogic studies at University of Stavanger with Ellen Nisbeth and Davis Sliecans. During my studies I have been a member of different chamber ensembles such as Peiskos String Quartet, Aureus Trio, Edda Strykekvartett, Malia String Duo with whom I have had the chance to develop as a chamber musician. I have also played regularly with Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and Bergen Youth Chamber Orchestra.

I have also participated and performed in several chamber music festivals and courses like Voksenåsen summer academy in Oslo, Båstad chamber music festival in Sweden, New Millenium Chamber Music Academy in Budapest, Zemstov Masterclasses in the Netherlands, and a String Quartet course organised by the Marmen Quartet in Malmö, Sweden. The past few years I have had the opportunity to take masterclasses and private lessons with Isabel Villanueva, Travis Maril, Bryony Gibson-Cornish, Phil Ying, Mark Holloway, Asbjørn Nørgaard, Ida Bryhn, and Mikhail Zemstov.

After my bachelor I worked as a violin teacher in Eigersund kulturskole (Norway) where I taught violin individually and in group lessons and oversaw music theory and music history lessons. At the moment, I am pursuing a master’s degree in viola performance at Maastricht Conservatory with Julia Dinerchtein and I am working on a wide range of projects, ranging from improvisation to contemporary music and electronically enhanced performance to chamber music.

I play on a viola by Rafael Melenchon modelled after the “Archinto” Stradivarius viola from 1969, made in 2012 in Madrid, Spain.
